In the city of Liège, at the end of the eighteenth century, early nineteenth century three breeds of pigeons have been created, being the Beauty Homer de Liège, the Barbet of Liège and the Liège Owl and to those three breeds the author dedicated this article.

Belgian Bearded Bantams are known and loved by chicken lovers all over the world. The Antwerp Bearded Bantam is best known, followed by the Uccle. INTERNATIONAL

ESFT SHOW

The weekend of the 4th and 5th of January saw the ESFT club of Great Britain play host to the International English Short Faced Tumbler show. Birds were entered from all over the UK as well as Germany and Austria; a real European event whereby the best ESFT in Europe could compete for the award of International Champion.

PEACOCK-PHEASANTS AND ASIATIC SPURFOWL

Part 2

A peacock-pheasant is so much more than its beautiful plumage and dazzling display behaviors might suggest. The significance of its evolutionary history can’t be appreciated in its entirety without a refresher course on those gallinate birds that are neither pheasants nor pea-fowl.

LAVENDER MAGPIED

FELEGYHAZA

TUMBLERS

In the Dutch Pigeon Standard for the Felegyhaza Tumbler the colour variety ‘Lavender (Silver) Magpie’ is approved. I had never seen Felegyhaza Tumbler in this colour and always asked if someone ever did, but never received any positive response. Today some birds here in my loft are very perky showing their silver feathers.

THE NEW ‘COCHIN BOOK’

On the 19th of April, the 'Cochin boek' was presented, which was actually supposed to appear in 2011 in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Cochin Club, but it did not. Everyone was unanimous on one thing: The book is unsurpassed beautiful.

JUNIOR HANDLER CLASS

Over recent years less has been heard about 'Dads' winning the Juvenile class. Most clubs now have a keen group of Juniors who care for their own birds and prepare them for show. Juniors have more to aim for now: Championship and Regional awards, special trophies at the National, a Junior Proficiency exam and individual breed judging certificates.

With our thanks to the Poultry Club of Great Britain.

NEW CREATIONS

at the NOORDSHOW 2014

At the Dutch National Poultry Show – housed at the Noordshow in Zuidlaren, Januari 2014, there were again many new creations shown to the public and submitted for approval to the judges of the standard committee. Not all new creations were approved, but our photographer Jan Schaa-reman took photos of almost all of them, which is not an easy job, as the show is always crowded with visitors all weekend.
