OLD DUTCH CRESTED

MINIATURE DUCKS

I had been thinking about adding some ducks to our menagerie for some time; and in 2012 my wife and I decided the time was right.  Because I have some Dutch Bearded Poland Bantams, as well as Gloster canaries (also with a "crest"), I very much wanted to have some crested ducks; but my wife thought them too large, and that’s how we came to the Crested Miniature Ducks.

OPENING

5th CHAMPION SHOW

The opening ceremony began at 18:30 and ended at 20:24 pm, almost two hours, which is quite long even for a Grand National Show. But there were many speakers and many awards to present to the winners. Highlight was the presenting of the beautiful decorated Coronation Plates, a special award with the date of inauguration of our new King, Willem Alexander.

Pavlovskaya

part 1

The Pavlovskaya is an old Russian chicken breed which got its name after the place where it was bred, the village Pavlovo in Nizhny Novgorod province, now  known as Pavlovo-na-Oka. These chickens have been bred since the times of Catherine II, Empress of Russia. There is a legend that the ancestors of this breed were hens in Catherine II’s poultry yard.

PEACOCK-PHEASANTS AND

ASIATIC SPURFOWL

Part 1

In this article, we examine in detail several tropical Asian galliforms frequently mentioned in technical ornithological literature but rarely discussed at length: the peacock-pheasants. A theory that’s become a matter of tradition places the peacock-pheasant as a phylogenetic link between actual pheasants and the peafowl.

CONCERNING POULTRY

~ The positive traits of naked neck chickens~

Naked neck chickens have the “Na”-gene. There is much attention paid to this gene and mainly for the purpose of uses in hot climates. However, experiments have shown more positive traits.

FRENCH EXHIBITIONS

Part 3

In France, it is quite normal on a Sunday afternoon to go and visit a fellow breeder who lives 200 miles away. This gives a very special atmosphere in the sport experience, especially at a show where participants often stay for a week (with their family) at a local hotel, to experience the total event.
