ENGLISH POUTER AND PIGMY POUTER The English Cropper can boast on a long and glorious
past. This breed was already described in 1735. It is said to have originated
from a cross between a Horseman Pouter and a Dutch Cropper. The breed has
evolved over time across the world, but its cradle is, as the name suggests,
in England. By : Harrie Kruize (NL) 8 pages - 745 kB

BREEDING
MARANS The Marans is a vivid bird and
docile at the same time; precocious and easy to raise. The
birds of my strain were - especially for an exhibition breed - good
layers. 5 to 6 eggs per week was not unusual. They lay well, even in winter,
especially when some extra light is provided. The egg shell is extra dark brown. By

BREED FOCUS: RAPANUI FOWL On Easter Sunday, April 5, 1722, Dutch sea captain
Jacob Roggeveen landed his ship on the Rapa Nui
island, that he renamed Easter Island. It was a dust-colored island covered
in dry grasses and those monolithic stone heads. The only land animals
present on the island were chickens of various kinds, each with their own
highly descriptive names. By : Christine Heinrichs and Kermit Blackwood (USA) 14 pages - 1.6 MB

IS OUR PIGEON FANCY PAST ITS PRIME? This year the number of pigeons entered at the French
National Exhibitions showed a marked decline. Remarkably, the number
of entered pigeons, which were formerly the largest number ever, is now
slowly being overtaken by the number of entered chickens. By : Robert Ripaldi (FR) 3 pages - 450 kB

THE CHRISTMAS WISH OF A PAVLOFF HEN My name is Greta. I am Pavloff hen
living in UK. Our tribe is the tribe of Komov. Once there were many tribes
of Pavloff in Russia but they are gone. It was very sad. Slawa Komov found
our tribe and brought us back. Maybe there are others there but I do not
know. By

TOURNAISIS BANTAMS About 15 years ago, a breeder in
the vicinity of Breda (a city in the south of the Netherlands) asked me
for some gold Brakel Bantams. I knew he had Tournaisis Bantams - as they
had previously caught my eye at a show in Ghent (Belgium) - so I swapped
the Brakels for some Tournaisis.
One of the things that struck me most is that no
two Tournaisis look the same. By

Championship for the
Modena The English Modena is a so called ‘Chicken
type’ pigeon from the group of Form Pigeons. According to the
Italian origin of this breed, we distinguish three varieties in marking;
the Schietti for Selfs, the Gazzi for pied marking and the Magnani for
multicoloured. The total range of colours in this breed is one of the greatest. By : Patrick Gonzales (FR) 16 pages - 1.6 MB |
