THREE STEIGER-

and STELLER CROPPER

BREEDERS

A triptych on the three board members of the Dutch Steiger and Steller Cropper Club: Adrie Klink, Chairman; René van de Westerlo, Secretary/ Treasurer and Henk Sandmann, Board member. The Club was founded in 1975, like the Steiger Cropper Club. In 2002 the Steller Cropper breeders joined this club and the Steller Cropper name was added. Recently also the Czech Steller Cropper was added to the Club Breeds.

THE EGYPTIAN

FAYOUMI

The Fayoumi, known in Egypt as the Bigawi, is a unique living treasure. It emerged at the crossroads of the flourishing civilizations of South Asia, Africa and the Near East and reflects the cultural exchange between the ancient Super Powers. Its progenitors sailed on trade ships and were carried overland with armies and caravans.

A CHRISTMAS

PRESENT

Last year the European Championship for Carriers was held in northern France. There were numerous top birds grouped together from different parts of our continent. I was told by several breeders that the show had been very worthwhile and the quality of the entered birds were very high. Next time I really should go there, because you are always disappointed to have missed a show when later you read or hear great stories about it.

PIGEON ART

FROM SOUTH AFRICA

A few years ago our local pigeon club was challenged with the idea to come up with unique awards for your show. One of our members brought along small pigeon figurines to our AGM and enquired if we cannot award something similar to our winning exhibitors. I had a look at his examples and decided to try to create something slightly different.

CONCERNING POULTRY

Different breeds demand

different incubation measures

One can be puzzled by noticing that, from the same batch, in the same incubator, some of the chicks hatch normally, while others die before breaking the shell. Reading the following article, based on the experience of industrial poultry breeders, could be a real eye-opener for  breeders of exhibition poultry as well.

LOUIS PRANG’S

lithograps

Apart from the first Christmas cards, Louis Prang manufactured a wide range of pictorial products, ranging from maps and fashion plates to advertisements, and also supplied the plates for several notable publications, e.g. "Prang's Natural History Series," published in 1873.

JUDGING AT THE

SOUTH AFRICAN

FANCY PIGEON

ASSOCIATION SHOW

When my wife, Donney, and I decided to have our holiday in South Africa, I thought it would be good if I could fit in their national show in Pretoria. After corresponding with Jan Lombard and Christo Britz, they said they’d like me to judge the LF Tumblers and some of the Blowers. So that was the start of what turned out to be a wonderful experience and fantastic holiday.
