THE SCANDAROON We visited Kees Verkolf and Marleen Brouwer in Wijster (Drente, Holland). For
Kees Verkolf it is
more than a aim of live, an almost mystic Journey, a dedication and mission:
breeding the perfect Scandaroon. For many years he has tried to foster and maintain
this rare breed. By : Nico van Benten 8 pages - 560 kB |

AFGHAN MUSAFER PIGEONS at SHAFIK NADER’s Saturday 21 March we went to visit Shafik Nader’s in Helmond (NL). Another pigeon fancier living in the same
town - Ben Kocken, gave us the tip about this special
fancier. Our visit was very
worthwhile indeed, especially with the warm welcome we received. We had
the pleasure to see a new pigeon breed, the 'Musafer
Pigeon', with a marking that was absolutely striking. By :

CONCERNING POULTRY Twins Every now and again we see something in the Animal
World to be special enough to hit the newspapers, for instance a four-legged
chick. We view these pictures with a mixture of pity and disgust, but also
with curiosity. This is not a ‘malformation’ like cross beaks, crooked
toes or splayed legs - the four-legged chicks are something completely
different. By : Elio Corti (IT) and Elly Vogelaar (NL) 9 pages - 730 kB |

ALDROVANDI OFFENDED THE NETHERLANDS BY ECLIPSING VOLCHER COITER Was the naturalist Ulisse Aldrovandi only a big sly profiteer, that is, an avid
pincher of scientific researches done by someone else? We are provided
with a patently clear example of this by the vicissitude of Volcher Coiter, who doesn't
absolutely appear in Aldrovandi's three treatises
of Ornithology, despite Coiter represented
the milestone in the daily survey on development of chic-ken's embryo. By : Elio Corti (IT) 7 pages - 400 kB |

HOLIDAY TRIP TO SICILY Every right minded poultry breeder takes his hobby
with him or her on holiday. Thus there are people who – when hearing a cock crowing
during their holiday – immediately start a search to find out what kind of
breed is making this noise, hoping for an ‘unknown’ breed. In other words if
you get the chance to visit a poultry breeder you grab the possibility with
both hands. By : Luuk Hans (NL) 4 pages - 280 kB |

KEEPING THE (YOUNG) PIGEONS HEALTHY After the ‘longest day’ (21 June; the date we stop
breeding) the pigeon fanciers in our area start preparing for the next faze of the Fancy : The Show Season. Although the old
birds have already started moulting when laying eggs for the second breeding
round, our birds will not look their best for a while. It is a good thing
that we know how they use to look in their pretty plumage, or else we could
make errors in our upcoming selections….! By : Jos de Poel 5 pages - 335 kB |

able to join this Assembly in a village high up-north. However, in spite of
the fact that it was rather far away, a respectable number of attendants
