Old German Magpie Tumbler. This breed is not only listed by the large German
Specialty Club, but also in the Modern German Pigeon Literature it is
mentioned as “one of the oldest German pigeon breeds”. In an attempt to trace
back its history in the old books from the famous Dutch pigeon historian
C.A.M. Spruijt, I found out that very little has been written down or documented
on this breed. By : Nico van Benten 11 pages - 540 KB |

CHICKEN RUN. According to Henk Meijers in Groesbeek, breeding
chicken can be a surprising hobby. A rare genetic factor popped up in his
chickens - being the dun factor. This factor is known in various kinds of pets
and agricultural breeds, even the Muscovy duck. With this colour gene you
can change the black to brown in all chicken breeds. So far no breed in this
colour is recognised in the Dutch Poultry Standard. By : Elly Vogelaar 9 pages - 800 KB |

CONCERNING POULTRY. Just like us, the nails on your bird will continuously
grow and on occasion may need to be clipped ... this can also be the case
with the beak. Even the feathers can
be found wanting and in need of a
"trim" ! In this
issue we will be dealing with the care and proper clipping/ trimming
necessary to keep our feathered friends in tip-top shape. By : Monique de Vrijer Translation

STARTING TO KEEP GEESE. It is often recommended to beginners that they start
with adult geese. However, I suggest that a good way to introduce the human
family to geese is to acquire some baby goslings. These endearing creatures
are hardy and adaptable birds and are easy to rear. By : Denise Moss 6 pages - 940 KB |

Keeping Fancy Pigeons. Part 3. There has been a fair bit written about the do's and
don'ts of how to keep Pigeons. This is just some practical advice from what
I have learnt over the last 50 years. It’s not scientific, it’s not 'by the book'
but it works! In part 3: Pigeon breeds and their temperament. By : Mick Bassett 13 pages - 730 KB |

Dutch Tour. We received a request from Dominque Harmant,
chairman of the French Pigeon Association of Tumblers and High flyer’s, and the
well-known German pigeon photographer Thomas Hellmann, to try and arrange
for a trip visiting breeders of our National Fancy pigeons. The trip was
organised to be in April 2007. This article is just a brief summary of what
happened and what fanciers we met during that day. By : Aviculture 7 pages - 430 KB |

OLD IS GOLD. On our Dutch shows we hardly see chickens and
bantams over one year old, so no cocks and hens but only cockerels and
pullets. But from the viewpoint of
well-being, image of the hobby, costs and permanent quality of our
animals, showing birds that are over one year old is a must. By :

AVICORNI SHOW. Opening. Due to the new design and location, this show was a
real ordeal for the organisation. The much larger number of animals demanded
a lot of improvisation in dividing the show ground, setting up the cages and
the computerized administration.
These kinds of problems help with building up the bonds. By : Aviculture 8 pages - 630 KB |
